Maintenance Legend LaShawn Dickson

The National Apartment Association (NAA) has honored a Charleston, S.C. Service Manager for going above and beyond. Oakbrook Village Apartments Service Manager LaShawn Dickson has been named one of three Maintenance Legends™ for October. The Maintenance Legends™ program, founded by NAA and sponsored in October by HD Supply, chose its honorees from across the U.S.

“Shawn performs with both consistency and dedication to excellence,” said Oakbrook Village Manager Heather Taylor. “His problem-solving skills and his pride in the property coupled with Shawn’s heart to serve makes for a remarkable team member. Last year, working alongside the Oakbrook team, Shawn worked tirelessly to help ensure the safety and well-being of both humans and pets alike by the aggressive searching for and the alerting of residents and pets when a fast-moving fire destroyed a 24-unit building,” added Taylor, who nominated him for the honor. “During the historic flooding that the Charleston area experienced in 2015, Shawn physically carried residents to safety who were unable to navigate the thigh-high flood waters. Another example of Shawn’s heart to serve can be seen in how once he found out about a resident beginning in-home hospice, he took it upon himself on his own time, to assist their spouse in creating a comfortable environment during a very difficult time. Additionally, for the last five years, Shawn has spearheaded a back-to-school supply drive for low-income children.”

Stonemark Management, which manages Oakbrook Village Apartments, has also honored Dickson earlier this year as its Service Manager of the Year.

“Shawn has a truly great heart,” added Stonemark Regional Vice President Melissa Doss. “His dedication to the job along with his strong work ethic and heart for people in need exemplifies what an amazing team member that Shawn is for Oakbrook Village and Stonemark Management alike. It’s impossible to sum up all the good qualities that Shawn possesses”.

The Charleston Apartment Association, NAA’s local chapter, honored Dickson at a dinner Tuesday, Oct. 7. As a part of the extensive prize package, he will also receive tickets to the sporting event in the U.S. of his choice including airfare and lodging along with a free trip to Apartmentalize 2024, NAA’s national conference in Philadelphia. He is also entered in a drawing for a 2024 Chevy Silverado truck.
