Stonemark Earns Three National Awards for Excellence

16 November 2020

Atlanta – Stonemark Management has won three national Multi-Housing News Awards for Excellence. The annual MHN awards program recognizes the industry’s outstanding deals, projects and professionals.

All three of Stonemark’s honors are for individual achievements. They include:

  • The Property Manager of the Year Bronze Award – Sally Thompson
  • The Rising Star Bronze Award for a leader under age 40 – Ayana McAdory
  • The Leasing Agent of the Year Gold Award – Deshavion Smith

The Property Manager of the Year honor recognized Thompson’s work at The 500 Apartments in Atlanta, where she increased occupancy and resident satisfaction while completing an extensive and lengthy renovation. She hired new leasing and maintenance staff, implemented fresh technology, and instructed contractors to focus and finish before moving to the next task.

She says relatability, communication and empathy with residents is the key to good property management. “We do have a business to run, however there's always the human aspect of everything,” she says. “There are rules and regulations that we have to follow, but everybody falls on hard times here and there. So us being understanding and listening and just letting them vent sometimes is all they're really looking for.”

McAdory, honored as a Rising Star, is only 27 years old. Her MBA (cum laude) from Jackson State University helps her understand the business as a whole. Her boss says she’s a “rock star,” with all the elements of a great leader and a readiness to share ideas.

McAdory says both patience and passion helped in managing – and greatly improving – three communities in three years. “Property management is absolutely not for the weak,” she says. “I think I've been as successful as I've been is because I care. You have to be motivated by other things than just money.” She spent much of 2020 managing Parkway Grand Apartments in Decatur, Georgia before recently returning to Van Mark Apartments in Ridgeland, Mississippi.

“This is fantastic,” said Stonemark President Walt Lamperski. “While the categories honor individuals, they also honor the teamwork, professionalism and personal touch for which Stonemark is known.”

The Multi-Housing News editors noted that the 2020 competition was extremely competitive and included many great submissions. They announced the awards in a virtual ceremony Nov. 6 at the CPE-MHN 2020 Summit Series.
