Mill Creek Residential, a leading multifamily investor and operator specializing in premier apartment communities across the U.S., today announced the Grand Opening of Portner Brewhouse at its Modera Tempo community.

The brewpub sits as the centerpiece of the ground floor at Modera Tempo, a mixed-use community featuring 492 apartment homes that opened in Jan. 2015 as part of the City of Alexandria’s Landmark/Van Dorn Small Area Plan. Portner Brewhouse joins Starbucks, Smashburger, Jimmy Johns and others that are located onsite at Modera Tempo. The brewpub had a soft opening on Feb. 25 before the Grand Opening on Feb. 28.

“Portner Brewhouse creates a rich, engaging vibe that simply does not exist today in West Alexandria,” said Sean Caldwell, senior managing director of the Mid-Atlantic region for Mill Creek Residential. “The brewhouse’s compelling history mixed with the passion of its founders to inspire local breweries adds substantial value to both Modera Tempo and the reviving West Alexandria neighborhood.”

Portner Brewhouse, situated at the intersection of South Van Dorn and South Pickett Streets on the front-facing side of the community, is inspired by the South’s largest pre-Prohibition brewpub, the Robert Portner Brewing Company. The new brewpub is the creation of two of Portner’s great-great granddaughters, who insisted on an Alexandria location to coincide with the history of the original, which was headquartered in Old Town Alexandria from 1869 until prohibition was implemented in 1916.

Modera Tempo and its retail outlets have become a catalyst for the Landmark/Van Dorn Small Area Plan, an initiative to revitalize the area into a lively urban neighborhood that coincides with the booming Washington, D.C. metro-area market.

In addition to becoming the home of Portner Brewhouse, Modera Tempo offers residents a walkable, transit-friendly lifestyle with access to numerous cuisine options, various retailers and an eclectic mix of entertainment options. The community is within minutes of the Van Dorn Metro Station, which provides expedient access to the many professional job centers in Washington, D.C., and the surrounding area.

Modera Tempo consists of studio, 1- and 2-bedroom apartment homes featuring 44 floor plans and a host of unique amenities, such as a dog spa, yoga studio, social kitchen, wine lockers and bike storage.

“Modera Tempo isn’t just an apartment community – it’s a living experience,” said Amirali Nasserian, managing director of the Mid-Atlantic region for Mill Creek. “We meticulously designed every detail from every detail within the home, to the perfect retail tenancy to enrich our residents living experience; which makes Modera Tempo second to none in West Alexandria.”
