237 upscale apartments set to revitalize Asheville’s River Arts District, with first move-ins slated for April 1 and full completion in June 2025

ASHEVILLE, N.C.  – Woodfield Development, one of the nation’s top 20 developers of Class A multifamily communities, has announced that leasing for its latest development, The Wyre, has begun. Located in Asheville’s River Arts District, an area devastated by Hurricane Helene last year, The Wyre stands as a powerful testament to the community’s resilience, ongoing revitalization, and unwavering commitment to maintaining its vibrant artistic legacy.

“We are thrilled to bring The Wyre to the River Arts District as a catalyst for renewal,” said Brian Schick, Woodfield Development partner. “The Wyre is not just about upscale living; it’s about celebrating and preserving the artistic heritage of this community. The building will feature displays by local artists, large murals on its exterior, and custom lighting fixtures by local glass artists, all designed to ensure that the creative spirit of Asheville remains at the forefront as the district reimagines its future.”

Located at 146 Roberts Street, The Wyre features 237 apartments that offer a sophisticated living experience with stunning views of The French Broad River and The River Arts District. The community offers a mix of studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom units ranging from 635 square feet to 1,376 square feet.  The first move-ins are scheduled for April 1, with the property slated for full completion in June 2025.

Shah Architecture and S. Wilkins Designs conceptualized the thoughtfully designed spaces, which feature sleek shaker-style cabinets, tiled backsplashes, luxe plank flooring, modern black hardware, custom built-ins, walk-in closets, and spacious balconies.

Beyond exceptional living spaces, The Wyre includes community-oriented amenities such as an elevated saltwater pool; a fitness center complete with a yoga studio, sauna and wellness pods; a stylish residents’ lounge; a rooftop terrace with signature views of the French Broad River; a conference room with study pods; a pet run and washing station; an art studio; and dedicated spaces for art exhibitions and cultural events. The property also boasts 16,000 square feet of on-site retail with an emphasis on fostering a vibrant, interconnected community where residents and local creatives can thrive.

The Wyre is deeply committed to showcasing the rich artistic culture of Asheville, particularly within the River Arts District. To support this mission, the development will feature several commissioned murals by local artists, capturing the community's artistic spirit. Eight individual exterior mural panels on the new mixed-use Wyre building will be visible from Clingman Avenue, paying homage to RAD’s storied musical history and dynamic music scene.

In addition, an 11-foot-tall reproduction of Judith Cheney’s The French Broad River in Asheville, NC: Past, Present & Future (1997) will be prominently displayed in The Wyre’s Leasing Center. This iconic piece, which explores the evolution of the French Broad River, is a powerful symbol of the district’s history and the community’s ongoing growth. The high-resolution scan of the original artwork was made with permission from RiverLink, Inc., who holds the copyright for Cheney’s work, further strengthening The Wyre’s connection to local heritage. By incorporating these unique works of art into its design, The Wyre honors Asheville’s legacy while cultivating an environment where art and creativity can flourish.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Asheville's River Arts District, The Wyre stands at the center of it all.  Steps away from top galleries, studios, dining and events, residents will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the artistic spirit of the district, enjoying easy access to all the creativity, energy, and inspiration that make the River Arts District one of Asheville’s most exciting neighborhoods teeming with arts and culture.

“The Wyre is poised to serve as a cornerstone of this revitalization, symbolizing both a fresh start for the neighborhood and a commitment to retaining its vibrant creative legacy.  We are proud to contribute to the River Arts District's resurgence, supporting its artistic community while providing a dynamic space for both residents and local creatives to come together,” added Schick.

The project team for The Wyre includes Housing Studio as the architect of record, CF Evans as the general contractor, and a collaborative effort by Shah Architecture and S. Wilkins Designs to handle the property’s interior design.

Redefining the Queen City’s skyline, the 42-story tower will become the second tallest residential building in the Carolinas

Queensbridge Collective, the widely anticipated transformative mixed-use development set to bridge Charlotte's Uptown and South End neighborhoods, has officially topped out construction of its residential tower at 42 stories. Developers Riverside Investment & Development and Woodfield Development celebrated the significant milestone in tandem with general contractor Clark Construction Group during a topping out ceremony on February 6 to mark the completion of the building’s structural framework, signaling a pivotal step forward in the development’s progress.

During construction of the residential tower, 41,000 cubic yards of concrete and 4,500 tons of steel were used, ensuring the building’s durability and strength. The project has also required 564,000 worker hours, with a total of 1,500 dedicated workers from Clark Construction and its contractors contributing to its success. In honor of this achievement, Clark Construction hosted a celebratory luncheon for the company’s construction workers, engineers, and contractors who played an instrumental role in the tower’s rise, acknowledging their hard work and commitment to the ongoing progress of the project.

“This milestone would not be possible without the strong partnership between Riverside Investment and Development, Woodfield Development, Goettsch Partners, Clark, and the many talented design and trade partners on this project,” said Chris Phares, senior vice president with Clark Construction. “The trust and collaboration of these groups, combined with the hard work and dedication of the project’s talented craft workers, has enabled us to transform the Charlotte skyline.”

Designed by globally renowned architecture firm Goettsch Partners, the Queensbridge Collective development includes two high-rise buildings: a 42-story residential tower offering 409 luxury rental units, and a 35-story office tower.  The cumulative project will include nearly 30,000 square feet of retail and more than 90,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor amenity space.

“Queensbridge Collective’s first topping out marks a major milestone in the forthcoming delivery of a new standard of residential living and retail offerings at the nexus of Charlotte’s South End and Uptown neighborhoods,” said Anthony Scacco, President, Riverside Investment & Development. “We applaud our construction teams for their diligent work and remain excited for how the project will redefine the resident and tenant experience through a carefully curated mix of uses.”

The amenity program includes more than two acres of indoor and outdoor fitness, sports, recreation, collaboration and entertainment space. The residential tower will also offer panoramic views of the city.

“Queensbridge Collective symbolizes the ongoing transformation of Uptown meeting South End, bringing a custom, irreplaceable residential product to Charlotte’s most dynamic location,” said Chad Hagler, development partner at Woodfield Development. “The construction team continues to do tremendous work, and we remain confident the luxury rental residences will offer an incomparable living experience.”

Food and beverage retail onsite include a rooftop restaurant space that will open with the first portion of the project’s delivery to provide a unique indoor/outdoor experience. Charlotte-based Night Swim Coffee is scheduled to open later this year on the ground floor and Denver-based modern American steakhouse Guard and Grace, will debut its 10,224-square-foot venue on the 10th floor in mid-2026. The development team continues to bring a mix of national and local restauranteurs to the property.

Completion of the entire development, which broke ground in May 2023, is anticipated for 2027.
