New Yorkers can learn from experts on how to buy a home for the first time, as well as how to apply for affordable housing through NYC Housing Connect, at the Affordable Housing Expo on Saturday, June 10, presented by the NYC Housing Partnership.

The Affordable Housing Expo is free and open to the general public from 10:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday, June 10th at the CUNY Graduate Center at 365 Fifth Avenue at 34th Street in Manhattan. There is no charge to attend. To register go to HousingPartnership.com/Expo23. Space is limited. Refreshments will be served.

“Industry experts in lending, legal and real estate will provide first-time home buyers with market insights, tips and tricks of the trade to successfully navigate the housing market and home buying process,” said Jamie A. Smarr, President and CEO of the non-profit NYC Housing Partnership.

“Those seeking affordable rental housing will receive advice from non-profit marketing agents and HPD Housing Ambassadors on how to apply for the NYC Affordable Housing Lottery. The Housing Partnership is proud to launch the Expo as a resource at a time when New Yorkers say housing affordability is their top living concern,” said Mr. Smarr.

The Affordable Housing Expo features an extensive Exhibitor Resource Fair where the public can learn about programs and services offered by lender partners, government agencies, housing providers, real estate professionals and others.

“One of the most important programs New York City offers to eligible first-time home buyers is the HomeFirst Down Payment Assistance Program. It provides up to $100,000 toward the down payment and closing costs on a 1-4 family home, condominium or cooperative in all of the five boroughs of New York City,” said Mr. Smarr. “The Affordable Home Expo features experts to advise on how to qualify for the HomeFirst Down Payment Assistance Program,” he said.

“Successful completion of the Housing Partnership’s HUD-Certified Housing Counseling Program is among the requirements to qualify for available down payment and closing cost assistance, including HPD’s HomeFirst Down Payment Assistance Program. Thousands of individuals and families have completed our Housing Counseling Program since its inception and gained the knowledge needed to succeed in the home purchase process,” said Emily McIntosh, Director of Homeownership Education at the Housing Partnership.

“The NYC Housing Partnerships celebrates its 40th Anniversary this year,” said Mr. Smarr. “In that time, we have facilitated the development and preservation of over 70,000 units of affordable housing, providing tens of thousands of New York families with comfortable and safe affordable homes,” he said.

The NYC Housing Partnership is supported by NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) in presenting the June 10 Affordable Home Expo.

“HPD creates thousands of affordable rental and homeownership opportunities every year, and we want to make sure New Yorkers know about them,” said HPD Commissioner Adolfo Carrión Jr. “We have a whole suite of additional housing support from down-payment to housing application assistance. If you’re looking for housing help, come out and get connected!”

For four decades the nonprofit Housing Partnership has led relationships among private sector developers and financial institutions and City, State and Federal agencies that created and preserved more than 70,000 low and moderate-income housing units in the five boroughs, leveraging over $7 billion in private financing and utilized more than $500 million in subsidies for affordable housing. This stimulates economic activity that strengthens the social fabric of neighborhoods where people can now live in safe, comfortable, affordable homes.
